Rising Tide: An Exhibition by Brian Britton

28th October – 18th November 2017

We are pleased to announce a special exhibition by fine art printmaker Brian Britton, based in Lechlade. He reproduces artworks created from hand-cut lino blocks, in small, limited edition runs on an original Victorian Columbian printing press dating from 1870.

For the linoprints, all the colours are printed from the same block, with areas of lino cut away before the next colour is applied. This is called a 'reduction' process. Up to eight colours are printed in this way, carefully aligned to make the final picture. Each linoprint has slight differences.

Monoprints have a slightly different process. Over a printed background from one block, a repeated design is printed, using another carved block that can be reused. Each monoprint is therefore unique.
