Our Store is Open For You During Lockdown
We Are Open For You
With Our Normal Hours
Last Updated 4th January 2021
Following the latest Government announcements (4th January 2021) we are able to remain open to the public, with our normal opening hours in place during the National Lockdown. This is because the Government has asked for certain businesses to remain open during the lockdown, to help retain and stimulate some of the economy and to provide support and a service to communities, and we have been classified as part of this category.
Our opening hours will be as normal and as follows:
9am - 6pm Mondays to Saturdays
11am - 5pm on Sundays
As is permitted, the majority of our retail areas will remain open, with the additional safety and welfare measures that we have introduced since the start of the pandemic.
Please note our café is open for a limited take home and takeaway service only until such time restrictions can be eased again. No eat in / seated service is permitted and any food or drink cannot be consumed in the store, outdoor retail areas or in our café . Please see below for further details.
Our loos will remain open too, as will our outdoor Natural Play area.
The above may be subject to change at short notice, if Government advice is changed or further restrictions are introduced.
Some Helpful Points Before You Visit
We may need to limit the number of people in the store at any one time, to facilitate safe, social distancing. This can mean that you will need to queue for a short while at busy times, at a sensible distance from others, before entering the store. We have installed a lovely new covered walkway by our entrance to help keep you warm and dry when the weather is inclement.
Our shopping trolleys and baskets are cleaned and disinfected after each use. We have hand sanitiser available for visitors to use at our entrance point and at exit points. You will be asked to remain at least a safe 2 metre distance from other customers and our employees at all times, and we will ask you to pay particular attention to signage and guidance at our till-points. We will be doing our best to minimise any delays, but please do be patient.
We would like to remind all visitors to follow the safety guidelines we have implemented, and in particular to respect the personal space of other visitors at this point in time. We all have different attitudes to risk, and some people will understandably be more apprehensive than others. We also know how easy it is to occasionally forget the new distancing rules, but it is our intention to try to provide the most comfortable and safe shopping experience we can for all visitors, and we can only do so if we all help each other.
Face Masks and Face Coverings
In line with the latest government requirements, wearing of masks in shops and cafés is a legal requirement. All visitors to the store (with the exception of those who may have a special exemption, and young children for whom this requirement remains optional) are required to wear a face covering or face mask for the duration of their visit. We have been advised that visitors to shops who do not wear masks may face a fine of up to £200 for non-compliance.
All of our regular visitors freely choose to wear a face covering, and nobody should feel uncomfortable doing so. Everything goes in our corner of the Cotswolds and we have seen some wonderfully creative face coverings over the past few weeks.
Families are welcome, although we do ask parents of young children to ensure their energetic youngsters are kept by their side at all times, and to be mindful of other visitors in the store. Our outdoor, natural play area is currently open, but please note this is reviewed daily and may close at short notice for safety reasons. You must follow all national safety guidance.
Groups and Household Meet-Ups
The new restrictions prohibit all social mixing between households indoors and we ask that all our visitors follow these latest rules in our store. To assist with understanding this, the following is an extract from the appropriate Government guidance:
"You must not meet socially indoors with family or friends unless they are part of your household or support bubble.
A support bubble is where a household with one adult joins with another household. Households in that support bubble can still visit each other, stay overnight in each other's households, and visit outdoor public places together."
Dogs (and other animals)
So sorry, love them as we do but we do not permit dogs, not even our own. Guide and assistance dogs excepted. Other animals, please form an orderly queue.
Quieter Shopping Times
At the moment the first hour or two in the day (from 9am) during the week is a quieter time for shopping, along with the final two hours (from 4pm); The last hour is a particularly lovely time to visit and shop. .
Payment - No Cash
Please note we are only accepting payments by debit or credit card, contactless (subject to national limit), mobile payments, digital wallets (Apple Pay and so forth) or our gift cards and vouchers. We are no longer accepting cash, or cheques, as a form of payment, as there is growing evidence this is a particular vector for virus transmission.
Safe Online Shopping as an Alternative
Our ONLINE STORE is also open, with a home delivery service available both locally and nationally. Our online store is, however, just a snippet of our full offer, and wherever possible we would always recommend a visit in person. We will do our best to fulfil any orders placed online in a timely fashion, but we will only do so whilst this continues to be permitted by the government and we deem it safe to do so.
Due to high demand for online shopping during this period, there may be some delays to normal delivery times. Generally speaking, deliveries are being fulfilled within 5 working days of us receiving your order, but please allow up to 10 days to be on the safe side, and slightly longer for larger items. Please be aware that this may be subject to change. For further information, please see our updated Delivery page.
Our delivery drivers are instructed to follow safe distancing guidelines at all times. Unless stated otherwise by us, please assume deliveries will be doorstep deliveries only. Where we are still able to offer an optional 'white glove' service, where furniture or larger items are delivered, assembled and positioned and all packaging cleared and removed for you, our drivers will only be able to do so if it is safe, and providing you can maintain safe distancing too.
Please be assured our staff working in the store and our delivery crew are being well looked after and are following our enhanced hygiene protocols and work to social distancing criteria. We are keeping up-to-date with and following all NHS, PHE and Government official guidelines. Our staff are also provided with PPE masks or face coverings and will wear these at all times, unless they have a particular medical condition which would make it riskier for them to do so. Protective, transparentbarrier screens are in place at tillpoints.
We would be very grateful if you could follow our guidelines when visiting, as this will help keep our team happy, safe and fit.
Stay healthy everyone, and try to keep your spirits up! Like you, we are looking forward to a return to normality in the future, and we will try to ensure each and every visit you make to us is as enjoyable as possible, irrespective of the circumstances.
With our very best wishes,
The Team at Burford Garden Company
*A Note About Our Cafés
From Thursday 24th December 2020 our cafés will offer a limited take home / takeaway service only, until such time restrictions can be eased again.
The important bits
We can only open our Cafés on our takeaway service basis. Food or drink purchased cannot be consumed in the store, or in any of our outdoor retail areas.
There is no need to book this service, we will be offering the same friendly, walk in service as before. However we do ask that you do not consume any food or drink in the store or in our café space. This is for your safety and the safety of other visitors and importantly our team, so please adhere to this.
We will continue to ask everyone to 'check in' on arrival by scanning the NHS Track and Trace app. If you do not have a smart phone, do not worry as we can also do this manually for you.
To ensure we maintain safe, social distancing we have set aside a special waiting area, where you may need to queue briefly at busy times. There is likely to be short wait at lunchtimes and at weekends, but any short queues do move along pretty quickly .
While we are in Lockdown we will not be serving alcohol from our Cafés.
Open at weekends, our Shed offers a groovy take away service. You can find The Shed next to the Reading Room, adjacent to our car park.
Here you can enjoy freshly ground coffees, Jeeves and Jericho teas and hot chocolates, cold drinks, and our famous sandwiches. And you can grab a slice or two of your favourite cakes and bakes at the same time...
