Michael John Bell graduated from Brighton University with a first-class honours degree in illustration, before forging a highly successful career in the music industry. He now divides his time between painting and writing feature film screenplays. Michael's fine art has been exhibited and sold widely across the UK, at the Broadway Modern Gallery, Bath Fine Arts, Art Wave West, Duncan R. Miller Fine Art and Michael Porter Fine Arts, and, for many years, at numerous London and British Art Fairs.
Michael's latest work continues a prevailing theme; namely, the relationship between the landscape and waterways of Great Britain. His paintings exude a wistful air, capturing the play of light during the early dawn, or the fading light of sunset. He explains:
'I'm constantly fascinated by the less-than-conscious memories we internally record and the half-remembered imagery, which creates the pictures we hold dear. I choose to record the memory of a place, allowing time for true reflection before beginning each new painting.'
Working in oils, Michael will often take a piece of discarded driftwood from a location and work directly onto it, once he's returned to his studio. Most of Michael's recent work relates to explorations that he's made in the South West of England.
