The pageantry and extravagance of the Venetian Carnival has swept us away at Burford’s Christmas Department this year.

Scintillating masks – some spangled with harlequin colours, others made of peacock feathers and iridescent sequins – vie for attention in a sea of jewel-like glass baubles.

Hundreds of twinkling lights are reflected in gilt mirrors, as are the antics of myriad dancing harlequins, masked fairies and colourful birds as they process, miniature but exquisite, through the Christmas trees.
