Burford has borrowed the spell cast by the Woodland – the snowy backdrop to Grimm’s Fairy Tales or the cosiness of the Hundred Acre Wood.

For children, all manner of festivity is taking place in the trees. Amongst the glitter and myriad baubles, felt princess mice dance circles around velvet-soft toadstools or bears carrying fir trees.

But there is beauty too. Finely wrought metal reindeer roam through delicate foliage garlands. Twinkling glass stars hang next to candle cages, shaped like gilded globes. While hundreds of glass decorations, some huge and almost black in their intensity, gleam in the lights.
