These superb Imprunetino Terracotta Pots are quintessentially Tuscan. The flared shape with three decorative bands under a robust rim makes them an ideal container for planting anything from azaleas to olive trees. Place on a sunny terrace or allow them to settle more calmly into a lawn or border and take on a beautiful green patina.
Even the name terracotta evokes a gloriously sun-drenched landscape – the word comes from the Latin, terra cocta, meaning baked earth. These pots are made from natural Galestro clay, local to the area in Tuscany where they are made, so they contain only naturally occurring chemicals and are ecologically sound. Made by traditionally skilled artisans, once fired the pots are robust but remain porous, making them a particularly sympathetic container for plants.
Imprunetino comes from the Tuscan town Impruneto. The name literally means 'in the pine woods' and the vacinity is famous for its deeply coloured terracotta.
