The attractive surface of these Italian Terracotta Troughs is enhanced by the subtle irregularities associated with hand-made objects. The uncompromisingly plain form of the trough is softened by unfussy moulding to the rim, which reflects its Tuscan origins. Over time, the distinctive colour of the terracotta matures, developing a soft patina.
Even the name terracotta evokes a gloriously sun-drenched landscape – the word comes from the Latin, terra cocta, meaning baked earth. These pots are made from natural Galestro clay, local to the area in Tuscany where they are made, so they contain only naturally occurring chemicals and are ecologically sound. Made by traditionally skilled artisans, once fired the pots are robust but remain porous, making them a particularly sympathetic container for plants.
