This is a compact, deciduous shrub, with a bushy habit. Its rounded deep purple leaves are variably splashed with cream and pink, and held on arching spiny stems. The sparse flowers are small and pale yellow, and followed by dark red berries. With a bushy habit, this is a great plant to provide autumn interest in a jaded border, or to form an unusual hedge, as it is such an interesting colour.

Berberis Harlequin is a Japanese Barberry that is helpful for bees in the garden.
