Buxus or Box is a slow-growing, evergreen shrub with small, glossy green leaves and tiny yellow flowers that appear in the leaf axils in spring. Compact in habit, it is a traditional stalwart in gardens, and alongside taxus (yew), is an essential component of a topiary display.

Sadly, Box can be susceptible to the ravages of Box Moth and more recently, Fungal Box Blight has taken a terrible toll on established trees and hedges. Over the last seven years, breeders have worked hard to create a blight resistant variety by cultivating the Asian and British varieties and they have been extremely successful, producing three resistant varieties:

  • Renaissance: low, slow growing, dark green leaves – ideal for hedging
  • Skylight: high, faster growing, medium green leaves – ideal for topiary
  • Heritage: medium, compact form, ideal for hedges and topiary
