Not for nothing is this gorgeous plant known as the Beautyberry! It offers something of interest in every season.
The young, lance-shaped leaves are bronze-purple and it has outstanding, rosy-pink autumn colour, after the delightful clustered small, lilac flowers of summer. Large, packed clusters of the startlingly violet purple berries appear in mid-autumn, overlapping with the autumn leaves, and then held on bare stems, lingering on until early December, well after leaf fall.
A deciduous shrub that requires more than one to pollinate and produce fruit, and it is even better planted in groups of three or five if you have the space.
Both the young foliage and bare branches laden with berries make good material for vases. But don't dally if you want to use the latter in an arrangement, as birds are attracted to the fruit and are likely to get there first!
Grow Callicarpa Profusion in moist but well-drained soil in full sun or dappled shade, ideally near a path or in a front garden where you can appreciate its autumn beauty.
