Allium Ostara is a new cross between A. Atropurpureum and A. Karataviense, taking the very best features of both. Large (7-10cm), deep purple globes comprising delicate starry flowers are held on strong, tall stems in late spring and early summer. Its attractive strap-like flowers are broad and long lasting. The result is a handsome, upright, bulbous perennial, fantastic for cutting gardens or adding interest to cottage garden borders, and leaving lovely architectural seedheads in autumn.
Thriving in a warm, sunny, well-drained position, A. Eros looks wonderful planted amongst herbaceous plants, particularly shorter perennials. Like other alliums, this giant ornamental onion is a good nectar source for bees and other pollinators.
