A dainty variety of allium producing clusters of small, nodding, round flower-heads of a lovely red-purple hue, on long stalks that shoot out from a basal tuft of narrow leaves. Allium sphaerocephalon is a handsome, upright, bulbous perennial, ideal for cut flower gardens or cottage garden borders.
This British native species thrives in a warm, sunny, well-drained position, and looks wonderful planted in large clumps amongst herbaceous plants. A good nectar source for bees and other insects.
