Anemone sylvestis is also known as the Snowdrop Anemone or Snowdrop Windflower, due to the way the buds hang from prettily arched stalks, resembling Snowdrops. Masses of these elegant buds appear in late spring and open into lovely single white flowers with yellow eyes, the backs of which are washed a delicate purple. The 'sylvestris' refers to the fact that it was typically found in deciduous woodland, which helps with ideas for planting schemes.
Being restrained in size, A. Sylvestris, with its attractive, deeply cut leaves, is perfect for the front of an herbaceous border. It is also appealing planted in a container, positioned in dappled sun on a terrace, where its scented flowers can be properly appreciated, and if required, cut for inside arrangements.
