Dahlia Bishop of Llandaff is a statement dahlia that features striking semi-double scarlet flowers, with a yellow ringed eye, set off by the shapely dark, blackish-red, deeply divided, foliage. Dahlias are tuberous perennials, traditionally lifted over the winter to protect them from frost.
This peony-flowered dahlia is a plant that can stand on its own, in a pot or in a prominent position in the middle of the border, where it will set off other plants, such as blue geraniums, salvia and nepeta. Extend the season with this dahlia, as it will flower prolifically from midsummer until the first frosts. Ideal for cutting.
Pot Size: 3L
Height and Spread: 100cm x 50cm
Preferred Soil Type: Any humus-rich, moist but well-drained soil
Aspect: Full sun / Partial shade
Flowering Period: July – November
Care: Feed weekly, and water well in hot weather. The tall flower stems will require regular staking and tying in, but this is well worth the trouble for the magnificent display that they produce. Larger flowers can be obtained by pinching out the side buds and just keeping the terminal buds. Lift the tubers once the foliage has died back and store in a frost-free location in moist sand or compost. Replant outside after risk of frost has passed.
