With prolific quantities of large, red flowers with an attractive scarlet vein in spring through to September, Geum Scarlet Tempest is a vibrant addition to your garden. Drought tolerant, it is a clump-forming semi-evergreen perennial with domed foliage, ideal for an informal, low maintenance garden.
Coming second in the Plant of the Year contest at the RHS Flower Show at Chelsea 2016, it is a great choice for reliability, long flowering period and eyecatching colour. The flower starts off orange, turning brighter red, and then fades to a softer orange in bright sunshine.
It is a sterile hybrid, so produces a mass of larger than average flowers over an impressively long period. The first flush begins in mid-spring until early summer. The plant takes a breather and then starts again, going on to flower uninterrupted well into the autumn, with slightly smaller blooms. Geum Scarlet Tempest is a cross between G. Beech House Apricot and G. chiloense Red Dragon.
