Paeonia lactiflora Duchesse de Nemours is a herbaceous perennial with the most glorious pure white double flowers. They are huge, bowl-shaped, frothy and fragrant with hints of rose and citrus. The reddish shoots appear first, followed by glossy dark green leaves and then round fat buds flushed green and full of promise. A popular cut flower. Why not underplant with spring bulbs to prolong the season of interest?
