With its extraordinary depth of colour, the new Salvia Amante is seen as a breakthrough by the salvia cognoscenti. Unusually deep, almost fuchsia pink flowers grow abundantly on tall maroon stalks, adding colour and height to the herbaceous border.
The impact of S. Amante is particularly pleasing when set against a dark green foliage backdrop such as buxus sempervirens, ilex crenata or asplenium trichomanes, and it is also a marvellous choice for a container. The decorative silhouette of the double-lipped flower, with its depth of colour, add a warmth to architectural lead or stone. Position the container near a sitting area to benefit from the lovely sage scent that emanates from the bright green foliage.
These beautiful but easy to grow salvias also have hidden depths: they are highly attractive to bees, butterflies and moths, but, happily, offer little temptation to passing deer.
