This beautiful and graceful herbaceous perennial is a classic feature of cottage gardens. Tight clusters of small lavender-purple flowers appear to float on the tall, branching stems of this airy plant, and are extremely attractive to butterflies. The leaves are sparse and oblong, and the plant dies down in winter. Verbena bonariensis Lollipop (also known as Verbena patagonica) is a dwarf variety, reaching only half the height of the familiar traditional cottage garden staple.
Perfectly proportioned for the front of borders, above low-growing plants such as Alchemilla mollis, and easy to grow, it is ideal for patio pots, cottage gardens, wildlife gardens, and the cut flower garden. It also works well paired with grasses, and is drought tolerant.
