Euphorbia characias Black Pearl is a shrubby evergreen spurge from the Mediterranean that gives year round interest. The upright stems carry narrow, dark leaves. Showy heads of lime green cup-shaped flower bracts with black eyes with yellow centres appear from late winter and last well into summer. It is a short-lived perennial, but readily seeds. The Mediterranean Spurge is naturally heat and drought tolerant.
Plant this elegant, architectural plant in beds and borders as a contrast in foliage form and texture. Especially striking alongside light leaved evergreen shrubs. Equally at home in a contemporary minimalist or gravel garden.
