A large deciduous shrub or small tree with an open habit and beautiful autumn colour when the bronze-tinged young leaves turn orange and red. In fact it is one of the best choices for a beautiful autumn display. Ripening in mid summer, the decorative fruits are edible too, but soon eaten by birds. They taste similar to blueberries and can be eaten many ways. Pretty white, star-shaped flowers hang in short lax racemes as the leaves unfurl.
Due to its relatively small size, Amelanchier canadensis lamarckii is an ideal tree for smaller garden; this low-maintenance tree can also be used for a screen or hedge. Underplant with tulips or pulmonarias.
