Winner of the coveted 'Plant of the Year' award at the RHS Chelsea Flower Show in 2017
The Mojo Berry is the new variety dwarf Mulberry (Morus rotundiloba Mojo Berry) that caught the judge's eye at the RHS Chelsea Flower Show in 2017, winning the coveted 'Plant of the Year' award. Bred by Japanese breeder Mr Hajime Matsunaga, this is a unique cross between a white and a black mulberry. Now launched commercially, we are delighted to be able to offer you this exciting new plant, which is making the delights of the deliciously juicy mulberry fruit available to all.
It is truly a small compact tree, and is perfect for a patio pot. Remarkably, it fruits on both new and old wood, even within the first year (most full-sized plants mature at around eight or ten years). It has so much else going for it too – it will bear fruit throughout the year from May until the autumn; it is self-pollinating, seedless and really tough. The white blossom is pretty too. In short, it's a 21st century mulberry.
What can you do with mulberries? They are delicious fresh, on their own, in a smoothie, or on top of your breakfast yoghurt, porridge or granola. Make wine, a liqueur using gin, or muddle them into a cocktail. You can make jam and jellies, pies, cobblers and crumbles with them. Or use for sorbet and ice-cream. Simply adapt recipes for blackberries and you are away!
