Lonicera x purpusii Winter Beauty is a deciduous or semi-evergreen honeysuckle that has an abundance of small but exceedlingly fragrant flowers on the bare branches during the winter. The tubular flowers are creamy white with prominent yellow anthers. The flowers – strongly scented so bees are atttracted from afar – can be followed by red berries.
This winter-flowering honeysuckle Winter Beauty is a hardy, strong-growing shrub, with a rounded shape and bright green leaves. You can prune it to grow up a wall but it will need tying in. It is an invaluable addition to the winter garden, especially in a shaded spot. Pair with clematis or another climber to shroud the branches in the summer.
