The daisy-like blooms of this coneflower, Echinacea Mooodz Glory, provide brilliant interest in the border from July onwards. The cone itself comprises a tactile mass of tiny florets which, as they develop, form a satisfying ‘pom-pom’ effect. The petals hang elegantly down from the golden cone as the flowers mature.
Deep green, hairy foliage adds to the joy of this clump-forming perennial. The long stems of the flowers make them perfect for cutting for arrangements, or leave them in situ to add interest to the autumn border. The cones will attract butterflies and other pollinating insects in the summer and seed-eating birds later in the year.
Due to the current concerns about our native hedgehog population, it is pleasing to note that the name Echinacea comes from the Ancient Greek word ekhinos, meaning hedgehog; it is easy to see why!
