The exotic, trumpet-shaped flowers of hibiscus are beautiful enough to entice hummingbirds to collect pollen in their native Asia and Pacific Islands, but flowering in a sunny border here, they are a late summer treat for bees and other pollinating insects. A bushy shrub with prettily lobed leaves, Hibiscus syriacus Oiseau Bleu has the most wonderful deep blue/purple petals, unfurling to reveal deep cherry markings and a white eye.
