This wonderfully scented French lavender is highly attractive to bees and butterflies. From the deep purple flower heads unfurl its characteristic ‘ears’, which are actually bracts rather than petals. These dark purple bracts are delicately veined and slightly frilled, lending the enchanting plant its name: ‘Fairy Wings’. The foliage colour is more green rather than the grey-green of many lavenders.
Its compact habit makes it ideal for group planting in borders; it is also effective planted in containers and can be grown more formally as a low hedge.
