Olearia x haastii is a compact, evergreen shrub, with small, smooth, oval foliage and a dense, upright habit. The leaves are a dark, glossy green on top, and white with a a felty texture underneath, giving an attractive overall impression of blue foliage. From the middle of the summer it is smothered in sprays of small, white, daisy-like flowers with a soft fragrance.
It is an ideal plant for the back of the border, and also makes an excellent hedging plant, especially useful in a windy spot, and is far more interesting than privet! Combines particularly well with Erigeron karvinskianus, and Mediterranean plants or other plants with silvery foliage.
