Sarcococca confusa is a compact, bushy, evergreen shrub with glossy, deep green, wavy ovate leaves. In winter, there is a multitude of inconspicuous, star shaped, very sweetly vanilla scented, pure white flowers are followed by red berries from April to June, which may persist into the following winter.
Site by an entrance or path to best appreciate the fragrance. Sarcococca works well in pots too, so is useful near a north facing doorway. In borders, plant in threes to fill gaps. A super plant for ground cover (the seeds are very fertile so it will multiply), especially on awkward slopes and banks; also copes well with dry shade and urban pollution.
