Rosa Munstead Wood® (Ausbernard) is an old fashioned English shrub rose from David Austin. The sumptuous, repeat flowering blooms are the sort of deep, velvety crimson you can lose yourself in. The rose also has a strong, traditional fragrance with fruity notes of blueberry, blackberry and damson. The compact form makes it ideal for pots and containters.
A recipient of the RHS AGM (Award of Garden Merit), for all round excellence in the garden.
The notable Edwardian architect, Edwin Lutyens, designed Munstead Wood for the garden designer who became his professional partner for many years – Gertrude Jekyll. The gabled façade of the house reflects the strong influence of the English Arts and Crafts Movement, as well as borrowing features from local Surrey vernacular architecture. As with all their collaborations, Jekyll’s gardens at Munstead perfectly complement the spaces articulated by Lutyens’s architecture. (Please also see Rosa Gertrude Jekyll.)
