Choose Skimmia for a colourful winter display! Skimmia Rubella is an attractive evergreen shrub that produces an abundance of clusters of burgundy-red flower buds, which look like berries and hold all winter and open as small white flowers in spring.
One of the best choices for planting in a patio pot and shady area. The lovely, vibrant flower buds form in September and remain closed on the plant all winter; they resemble tiny red berries. In spring they open the reveal fragrant blush-pink blooms. The foliage is a glossy dark green, making this a great all-round choice.
Skimmia is not suitable for lime or chalk soils, so is best cultivated in pots with ericaceous compost in these regions.
