While this delightful deciduous shrub is a little tender (it needs protection from frosts) it is well worth the effort. The glossy, dark green, elliptical leaves emit a gentle fragrance a little like Rosemary, and the flowers, which are in bloom for an extended period in the spring, are also wonderfully scented. From pink buds, the delicately pretty, wax-like flowers, open in a mass of bright white starry petals with an orange centre. They cover the plant and scent the surrounding air. An interesting feature are the so-called 'warty stems' which bubble with green texture.
The shrub, a native of Australia, is also called the Gin and Tonic plant. Bushy and rounded in form, Eriostemon myoporoides is excellent for planting in a container in a sheltered position where the scent can waft in and around living areas.
