This Lavandula Vera mini standard has been carefully trained into an extremely attractive lollypop form. Its shape makes it a natural choice for statement planting in a well-placed containeer, to add pace to a border or for punctuating a parterre.
Vera is a small, evergreen lavender, a cross between the English and Portuguese herb. With slender, aromatic, silvery-grey leaves, in high summer it produces long spikes of dusky pale to dark purple flowers, which are also highly attractive to bees, butterflies and other pollinators.
For centuries, lavender has been grown for its sweet aroma, the fowers picked just as they come into bloom. These can be dried and used in baking or increasingly to flavour savoury dishes. Traditionally, the dried aromatic flowers can also be sewn into muslin bags to scent clothes and the linen cupboard.
