Magnolias are among the first ornamentals to burst into bloom, with dramatic waxy flowers on bare stems.

Magnolia x Soulangeana is a magnificent specimen plant for early spring interest. A spreading deciduous tree with white, pink or purple, goblet-shaped flowers up to 25cm across, emerging in spring from large March buds. Also suitable for growing in a container.

This hybrid was created at the beginning of the 19th century by the Frenchman Étienne Soulange-Bodin, who crossed the Magnolia denudata, with the Magnolia liliiflora.
