Paeonia lactiflora Alexander Fleming is an early to mid season herbaceous peony. The shallow-domed fully double blooms are a mass of loose petals forming a swirl, in silver-tinged, apple blossom pink.
Butterflies, bees and other pollinators are attracted to the fragrance. The reddish shoots appear first, followed by glossy dark green leaves and then round fat buds flushed green and full of promise.
With pleasing foliage, this is a favourite for the border. You can also grow it as a lovely low hedge, or plant en masse for a dramatic display. Underplant with spring bulbs to prolong the season of interest.
Extremely hardy and easy to grow, this long-lived perennial is perfect for flower arrangements, and is exceptionally long lasting when cut.
