Viburnum burkwoodii is one of the best scented varieties of viburnum and a perfect specimen shrub for year-round interest. It has clustered domes of fabulously fragrant white or pale pink flowers in spring, opening from pink buds. The red fruits ripen to black in autumn. It has glossy, dark green leaves, an open habit and is usually evergreen once it reaches maturity.

Site this shrub near a path or entrance in a partly shady position to best appreciate its fragrance. It benefits from the protection of a wall, and can make an unusual hedge.
