Also called Fragrant Abelia, A. mosanensis, as the name suggests, has a superb, heady fragrance. Its pretty, highly scented flowers, borne in late spring, are a waxy white, showing an attractively warm tint as they emerge from pink buds. The shrub itself is deciduous, growing into a healthy, rounded form comprising elegantly arching branches. The mature foliage is a glossy deep green that becomes orange/red tinged in the autumn.
Thanks to the exotic flowers and heavenly fragrance, this hardy shrub is lovely planted in a container on a terrace or near the house so the scent can easily be appreciated.
