Hydrangea paniculata Limelight is a beautifully frothy garden hydrangea with loose, cone-shaped flowerheads. The lime-green buds open to white flowers with a hint of pink, giving much-needed freshness to the garden in late summer and into the autumn. It has an open habit, and the branches sway gently in the breeze. Unusually for hydrangeas, it responds well to a hard prune.
Deciduous shrubs, paniculate hydrangeas are natives of China and Japan and are very hardy. It like to have cool roots, so does well behind a wall, and Hydrangea Limelight thrives in dappled shade and can light up a dull corner. It looks great in a pot, but keep it well watered, especially in terracotta. Grow as a specimen plant, or with other plants – it is particularly lovely paired with ferns.
