Hydrangea paniculata phantom is a showy garden hydrangea with massive white flowerheads. Developing from pale green buds, and with rounded bases and pointed tops, these comprise loose, starry florets that begin as sparkling white and turn cream then flush pink as they mature. It has an upright, spreading habit, with pointed, dark green leaves, and the branches sway gently in the breeze. Ideal for giving much-needed freshness to the garden in late summer and autumn.
Deciduous shrubs, paniculate hydrangeas are natives of China and Japan and are very hardy. Plant this vigorous variety where its grandeur can be appreciated. It likes to have cool roots, so does well behind a wall. Hydrangea phantom looks great in a pot if kept pruned, but water it well, especially in terracotta. Grow as a specimen plant, or with other plants - it is particularly lovely paired with ferns or behind a low box hedge.
A recipient of the RHS AGM (Award of Garden Merit), for all round excellence in the garden.
