Hakonechloa macra Naomi is a striking variety of Japanese Forest Grass (also known as Hakone Grass). From afar, H. macra Naomi creates a vibrant show of lime green, very welcome in a late summer border; up close the slender leaves are, in fact, an attractive matt creamy yellow with refined bottle green stripes. The elegant, blade shape of the leaves resembles those of dwarf bamboo, but without the invasive habit. This brilliant flash of summer colour matures in the autumn to produce highly attractive tones of plum and purple, so evocative of the season.
Plant in drifts on the edge of a sunny or dappled border, or as a clump in a container where the breeze will catch the grass adding movement and interest.
