This lovely hellebore is a beautifully bred variety of the popular Christmas Rose. Masses of buds open into forward-facing, star-shaped flowers with yellow eyes and, unusually, seven petals. As these white flowers mature, they blush or turn a decorative light green. The buds are raised on burgundy stems over dark green, toothed leaves.
Try pairing with other shade-loving plants such as ferns, tiarella, alchemilla and hostas. Hellebores also provide a valuable source of nectar to foraging insects, especially bees, when little else is in flower.
