Jackfruit and Blue Ginger: Asian favourites made vegan
by Sasha Gill
This colourful vegan recipe book comes from the blogger and social media foodie Sasha Gill. Gill grew up in Singapore, with the exotic aromas and tastes of local street-stall food and her family’s traditional cooking. Later, while studying medicine in the UK, she revisited the delicious flavours of her childhood, and decided to ‘veganise’ them, substituting plants for meat and fish.
The result is this mouth-watering Asian collection of vegan recipes which reflects Gill’s love of clean, vibrant flavours. Arranged in sections, India, Thailand, Singapore & Malaysia, China and Japan, there is also a helpful guide to basic techniques and a list of pantry essentials.
Beautiful, highly colourful photographs accompany the recipes, which vary from simple, like Salted Cumin Lassi or Mint chutney, to the more advanced, such as Jackfruit Biryani or Shiitake ‘Tonkotsu’ Ramen. The methods are quick, easy to follow and require inexpensive and readily available ingredients.
