Victoria plums are classic English fruit trees that bountifully produce yellow fleshed stone fruit in September. Possibly, but not certainly named after Queen Victoria, this plum is nevertheless magnificent and makes the most marvellous jam, as shown here. Homemade, unsullied by additives, the delicious sharpness of the plums make it a good jam for culinary use (think of roast duck) and for sandwiching Victoria sponges – obviously.
