With a long-standing passion for traditional hand-crafting techniques, and skilled at modern digital printing too, print designer Eleni Malami, who hails from Athens but is now based in Brighton, creates highly decorative cushions of colour, opulent luxury and pure fun! Inspired by nature as well as vintage fabrics from various cultural backgrounds, with her ethically produced textile creations Eleni demonstrates a masterful combination of traditional and modern techniques.
Eleni starts each of her designs by drawing or painting free-hand, instinctively and spontaneously, with water-based pencils and inks, before adding colour with watercolour paint, marker pens, and inks, then digitally manipulating these forms to wonderful new effect. Multi-talented, she then makes every cushion herself (with a little help from time to time), drawing on her fashion background and her stash of trimmings.
The Alexandra design is an intricate print of stylised flowers and leaves inspired by vintage textiles of the 1800s, a time when fabric commerce between Asia and Europe was growing and there was a resulting influence in the aesthetics of fabric. This round cushion is printed on good quality cotton with a plain cotton reverse in dark navy, and finished with a pom-pom trim in royal blue, discretely concealing a zip.
Materials: 100% cotton, polyester trim, zip closure, duck feather insert
Care: Delicate dry clean only
Note: Due to the hand-crafted nature of this item, there may be slight irregularities; each cushion is unique.
