The base of this substantial dining table is beautifully constructed. The smooth table top is a breathtaking slab of bluestone with a soft antique finish, with the marks and veins revealing all the character of the natural stone. The sides of the stone are saw cut, with a slightly rounded top edge for comfort. The weight of the top is supported by a trestle frame of square-cut weathered solid oak aged to a pale colour, joined together with oak pins
Bluestone is a general term covering medium-grained dark and heavy rock, harder than granite, for example dolerite. You may have heard the term used to describe the stones at Stonehenge.
As at home in the kitchen as the banqueting hall, interestingly, you will not only bring the informality of al fresco dining indoors with this table but also dress it up for the most sumptuous of feasts. Or you can keep it outside on the terrace, for use whenever the weather permits. This stone is from Belgium, and its low porosity makes the material resistant to frost and pollution so it can be left outside uncovered all winter.
Comfortably seating eight, this impressive table can be used indoors or outside. But be warned, it is very, very heavy so you won't be moving it in a hurry!
