Ercol Originals, from the renowned British furniture manufacturer, are pieces of timeless and classic furniture design that never will date or show their age.
Ercol’s founder, Lucian Ercolani, drew his inspiration from the time-proven local design and craft in the Chiltern Hills around where he lived, particularly the art of 'bodging'; he built his first factory in 1920 in High Wycombe, Buckinghamshire. The Originals are achieving a position in the pantheon of classic designs of the twentieth century, and are a much sought-after British classic.
What makes a chair a Windsor chair? The key feature is the classic Windsor wedge joint, where the leg of the chair goes right through the seat; a wedge is then inserted into a cut in the leg, forming a remarkably strong joint. Sanded off flush with the seat, the joint then provides a beautiful design element.
As a progression of the traditional Windsor chair design, dating from the early eighteenth-century, this classic armchair offers a large, outward shaped seat, moulded for comfort. The bentwood chair bow is an attractive and unique shape, reminiscent of its Windsor heritage. Turned lists that structure the back of this seat, and tapered legs, give this piece a distinctive Ercol feel.
