This is a one-of-a-kind, two-seater chesterfield sofa. Unique because it is upholstered with a handmade kilim woven with a stylised pattern of the elephant headed Hindu god Ganesh.

Wonderfully compact, the sofa is designed in a traditionally stylish Chesterfield shape. The specification is, however, modern, so this Ganesh Kilim Chesterfield Sofa is beautiful, hard wearing, and comfortable – a happy marriage of tradition and technology. Firm, but comfortable to sit in, it is beautifully detailed with turned wooden legs with brass castors and decorative rows of tacks around the front of the arms. Its size makes it ideal for a cottage or for use in a bedroom.

One of the most revered of the gods, Ganesh is benign, seen as the remover of obstacles, patron of the arts and science, and the promoter of intellect and wisdom. The effect, when used on the sofa, is also both endearing and hopefully propitious.

Kilims, hand-woven, woollen rugs without a knotted pile, have been made in Turkey for centuries. A crucial part of nomadic life, they lined (and line) the floors and walls of tents as well as houses and were highly valued as dowry pieces. Not only are they attractive, but they are famously hardwearing and as a result ideal as a chair covering.
