Eclectic pieces of furniture, these Kilim Ottomans are beautifully decorated and luxuriously comfortable. Handcrafted from Turkish and Pakistani kilims, the featured patterns and motifs help to bring a touch of heritage and warmth to any room. An incredibly versatile interior furnishing, these ottomans work great as a coffee table or footstool, and even provide occasional seating when hosting guests.
Hand-woven, woollen kilim rugs have been made in Turkey for centuries. A crucial part of nomadic life, they lined (and line) the floors and walls of tents as well as houses, and were highly valued as dowry pieces. Traditionally woven into kilim furniture are decorative motifs, thought to signify desires or serve as protective symbols. This ottoman has been embroidered with the Kocboynuzu motif, a symmetrical hooked design, mirroring the formidable apperance of a ram’s horns. Such imagery was intended to symbolise heroism and masculinity.
Beneath the kilim the upholstered seat is not sprung but generously padded, the bottom of the bench is finished with a continuous single row of brass tacks and the sturdy wooden legs are decoratively turned and varnished. Steeped in history these ottomans hold a sophisticated, regal appearance, sure to give your interiors a sense of grandeur and elegance.
