This extraordinarily beautiful table has a tactile, organic quality. The pedestal appears to grow tree-like out of the floor and rises to form a waist high, circular tabletop, all of which is carefully assembled from pieces of hardwood, collected from beaches in Indonesia. The very nature of its construction ensures it is unique.
Made in Switzerland (with associated attention to detail), the table has a robust quality. The driftwood used for the tabletop has been sawn and polished to reveal the lovely figuring of the heartwood. Occasionally, naturally occurring flaws in the timber have been carefully filled with small wooden dowels, adding visual interest. The great beauty of the tabletop, however, is provided by the intriguing spaces purposely left between the intersected pieces of driftwood. (Perfect for Henry Moore or Barbara Hepworth, who felt that a sculptural space was as expressive as the solid.)
In many respects this table is a work of art created from recycled natural material. It should, perhaps, be seen as a family heirloom in addition to a useful piece of furniture that complements any interior, traditional or contemporary.
