Call for Availability

Syngonium podophyllum White Butterfly is a beautifully elegant houseplant with fascinatingly variegated foliage. Interestingly, the leaves change as they age, from an arrowhead shape with bold markings to more rounded lobes with softer looks.

Commonly known as Goosefoot or Arrow Head Vine, it was originally confused with the similar-looking African genus Nephthytis, and this is still used as a common name for the plant. In case you are wondering, the Latin 'podophyllum' means 'with stout-stalked leaves'.

Native to Latin America, it is easy to care for, and rarely bothered by pests, although will require a certain amount of cutting back to keep it in check, especially if you have children or pets around as it is mildly toxic.

Syngoniums reduce airborne microbes and indoor air pollution, including volatile organic compounds such as benzene, formaldehyde, toluene and xylene, as well as increase increase humidity. The pollutants are absorbed by the leaves, and the toxins end up in the roots to feed the plant, which is an extraordinary concept.

Grow it as a bushy mound, pinching out to keep it compact, or install a moss stick and let it creep ever higher. It works well in a terrarium too.

We regret, due to winter temperatures, this plant is only available for in-store purchase.
