Also known as the ZZ Plant (a rather more catchy name), Zamioculcas zamiifolia Lucky has become the darling indoor plant of social media, but for very sound reasons. Its bright green and glossy leaves (in a typical pointy leaf-shape) grow perfectly paced along its upright stems, creating a wonderful, visual rhythm.
Native to Africa, the ZZ Plant is an easy-going house guest. Tolerating low light levels, it is happy in normal room temperatures and is remarkably forgiving should you forget to water. But, while robust and undemanding, it does not grow into a monster, and only reaches a refined metre in height after several years.
ZZ Plants also serve a practical purpose in the home, by purifying the air of unpleasant toxins. The only drawback is that it is poisonous if ingested, so must be grown out of the reach of children or pets.
Dimensions: H: 80cm, W:30cm (reaching 100cm in a few years)
Care: Water regularly (with rainwater ideally) but only when the soil has dried out. Do not over water or leave roots standing in water. Avoid bright sunlight and protect from temperatures below 15 degrees C. Apply a light fertilizer every month in the summer. Repot when necessary but into an only slightly larger pot each time.
Please note, poisonous to humans and pets if ingested.
