The fluid design of this Aveiro stoneware ensures each piece is easy to use and lovely to hold. With a handmade vibe, each piece has two types of glaze, the main body of the jug has a matt finish, complemented by a shiny, lighter coloured glaze around the rim. The Stoneware is made by a family-owned Portuguese firm (hence the name – Aveiro is a city in Portugal). The company, established over a century ago, has evolved, but many traditional techniques and the high quality continues.
Stoneware has been valued for centuries. Prior to the invention of porcelain, the Chinese, famed for their ceramics, mainly produced stoneware. On a basic level, it is clay fired at a higher temperature than earlier earthenware, making it non-porous. The robust nature of modern Stoneware means that it is less susceptible to chipping and is dishwasher and microwave safe.
